Stadion Bloomfield
Bloomfield Stadium in the Israeli capital, Tel Aviv, was established in 1962 on the site of the previous venue, Basa Stadium, which had been in operation since 1950. Located in the Eastern Jaffa district, it has a capacity of 29,150 spectators and currently serves as the home ground for Ligat ha’Al teams Hapoel Tel Aviv, Maccabi Tel Aviv, and Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv.
The stadium is named after the Bloomfield brothers – Bernard and Louis – whose family foundation, the Eldee Foundation, was one of the main contributors to its construction. The Bloomfield family, of Canadian-Jewish heritage, has actively supported not only the Jewish diaspora worldwide but also numerous projects in Israel. Bernard and Louis, in particular, dedicated their efforts to the development of sport in the country.
The first match at the newly built Bloomfield Stadium was played on 13 October 1962 between local teams Hapoel and Shimshon Tel Aviv. However, the official inauguration took place two months later, on 13 December, and was marked by a friendly match between Hapoel and the Dutch club Sportclub Enschede.
Initially, Bloomfield served as the home stadium for Hapoel Tel Aviv, but in 2000, Maccabi Tel Aviv also moved in, followed by Bnei Yehuda in 2004. As a result, Bloomfield became the only stadium across all three of Israel’s top football leagues to host three teams simultaneously, reinforcing its position as a key hub of Israeli football.
In September 2010, UEFA awarded Bloomfield Stadium Category 4 status, allowing it to host UEFA Champions League group-stage matches. This recognition also led to the stadium being selected as the host venue for the UEFA Under-21 Football Championship in 2013.
Due to the stadium’s increasing prominence and growing popularity, as well as the passage of time, a major renovation and expansion project commenced in 2016. The stands, which previously accommodated just over 14,000 spectators, were nearly doubled in size and now offer over 29,000 seats. The renovation was completed in August 2019, transforming Bloomfield Stadium into a modern, state-of-the-art sports facility.
To ensure structural integrity and safety during the renovation, high-quality Rawlplug products were used, including:
- R-HPT II ZF mechanical anchors.
Thanks to these advanced anchoring solutions, the stadium has become even more stable and secure, further solidifying its status as one of Israel’s premier sporting venues.
