Site testing

Every construction site has its own challenges, and the results of strength tests carried out by experts guarantee the selection of the best fixings. If you’re looking for a safe and cost-optimised solution, you should have site tests performed.

What will you get?

If you’re not sure whether your connection is safe and secure, which optimum fixing to choose, how much your substrate can withstand, or how many anchors to use, order site tests with a professional report. The test is carried out by an engineer or technician using a certified and calibrated pull-out tool based on the applicable standards in force. The result of the test is a clear report with recommendations, signed by a Rawlplug engineer.

Site testing

Fixings can be tested both at the design stage to determine the load-bearing capacity of the substrate and to select a suitable fixing system, and after the installation has been completed.

1 Test parameter definition

First, our expert determines the application and substrate type as well as the specific conditions under which the test will be performed.

2 Product selection

The products are selected according to the criteria and requirements of the specific project.

3 Application of products in the substrate

At the construction site, we embed the selected product in the substrate in line with the installation guidelines. The minimum number of fixings installed is 5. In order to obtain a representative sample, the number of tests depends on the total number of fixings used.

4 Load measurement

Using a special device, we transfer the load to the fixing, measuring it at the same time. We use devices with different load ranges (from 0 to 150 kN), each of which is certified by the relevant authority.

5 Results report

A specialised report is drafted on the basis of the tests, in which they are described along with the results obtained.

6 Product recommendation

On the basis of the test results and the description of the application conditions, we recommend a safe solution in the form of an optimally selected fixing.

1 Test parameter definition

Our expert verifies which type of fixing is to be tested and in which substrate it has been installed.

2 Test number determination

As a minimum, the tests should cover 2.5% of the total number of anchors installed, or in any case at least 3 anchors.

3 Load measurement

We determine the appropriate load to check if the specific fixing carries it. To carry out the measurements, we use special devices with different load ranges (from 0 to 150 kN), each of which is certified by the relevant authority.

4 Results report

The test results in a report verifying whether the fixings meet the criteria assumed. If, for some reason, the anchors do not demonstrate the adequate load-bearing capacity, the engineer provides recommendations on what to do next.

Advantages of site testing

1

Comprehensive support provided by engineers.

Locally, in all countries where Rawlplug has its branches. Designers and contractors are offered the opportunity to consult about specific solutions and to obtain technical assistance on the location. One of the most popular services provided in this respect is Site Testing.

2

In the place and under the conditions of actual use.

The site testing service involves strength tests of Rawlplug’s products under real-life operating conditions including substrate load capacity tests. The brand’s fixings are tested against the guidelines defined by the Construction Engineer or the Site Engineer with reference to the given project’s requirements.

3

Compliance with the highest standards.

When running site tests, we make use of our proprietary standard designed with reference to the EAD, the requirements of British Standard BS:8539 as well as the guidelines of the British Construction Fixings Association (CFA). Compliance in this respect is supervised by a team of Rawlplug’s experts, members of the Technical Committee.

4

Reliability of the results after a series of tests.

The service involves the performance of a number of strength tests ensuring reliable results.  In the event of any discrepancies, tests are repeated to diagnose potential structural or design limitations to the use of Rawlplug’s products. Where this is the case, the Technical Department’s engineers propose alternative solutions in terms of the product selection and the conditions for application of individual fixings, bearing the customer’s business benefits in mind, including cost-effectiveness, efficiency and performance.

5

Detailed report.

After completion of the tests, we provide a detailed report to the customer, containing information on aspects such as the required load and the actual load, the structure type and strength properties, the fixing thickness, as well as individual recommendations from Rawlplug’s technical experts.
