Golden Mile in Durban – Rawlplug supports the iconic beachfront promenade of Africa
Six kilometers of seaside leisure along the Indian Ocean, upgraded infrastructure, and modern safety elements – Rawlplug contributes to the revitalisation of Durban’s famous Golden Mile.
A vibrant destination
Durban, South Africa’s third-largest city and its busiest port, is known for its subtropical climate, cultural diversity, and one of the best urban beaches on the African continent. Its hallmark is the Golden Mile – a 6-kilometre-long seaside promenade stretching along North and South Beach, attracting walkers, runners, cyclists, and tourists from around the world.
A new chapter for the Golden Mile
The current redevelopment project is part of a broader revitalisation plan for the Point Waterfront district. The investment includes connecting the beaches with a pedestrian promenade, creating recreational spaces, ramps, breakwaters, and installing urban furniture – all in line with functional yet environmentally conscious urban planning.
The final stage of the project involves restoring green areas by planting resilient, carefully selected vegetation on the dunes. These plants act as natural protection against erosion while complementing the promenade’s visual landscape.
Rawlplug technology for demanding coastal conditions
Modern stainless steel guardrails were installed along the promenade using R-HPTIIA4-12100 throughbolt anchors. Manufactured from A4-grade stainless steel, these anchors are designed to withstand the highly corrosive coastal climate.
Each bracket was fixed with four anchors, ensuring secure and durable installation of the railings, exposed daily to salty ocean air, high humidity, and heavy public use of the promenade.
