Samsung SDI electric vehicle battery factory
Samsung is primarily known for manufacturing electronic devices and mobile phones. However, the scope of Samsung Group’s operations, which includes Samsung Electronics, is much broader. Last year, Samsung SDI, a subsidiary of the brand, announced the planned expansion of its battery cell factory in Hungary. We can already reveal that Rawlplug products will be used in the construction works.
In 2017, Samsung SDI transformed its Hungarian plant, which originally produced plasma display panels (PDP), into a factory for electric vehicle batteries. The production of lithium-ion batteries began in 2018, and that initial redevelopment was just the first phase of further modifications and construction works. Last year, the Korean giant announced an investment of 1 trillion won (approximately 740 million euros) to expand the facility located in Göd, a city about 25 km from Budapest.
Expansion of the Samsung SDI factory with Rawlplug products
The planned completion date of the Samsung SDI factory expansion in Hungary is not yet known, but we already have reasons to celebrate. Rawlplug has won the tender to supply, among other things, roofing fixings and R-ORR screws for wall panel installation. The success of our company in this investment was primarily determined by ensuring the appropriate quality standards of our products, as well as providing the necessary documentation and certifications. The solutions proposed by Rawlplug experts, tailored individually to the needs of the project, have been confirmed through on-site testing.
Samsung SDI factories in Europe and worldwide
It is worth recalling that Samsung SDI operates battery cell factories in China and South Korea. The Hungarian facility was the first of its kind for the Korean brand in Europe. The construction of the factory aimed to reduce costs related to transportation and logistics, while the ongoing expansion will further strengthen Samsung SDI’s position in the European automotive market. The company is among the top five global producers of electric vehicle batteries, supplying its products to manufacturers such as BMW and Volkswagen.
We are proud that yet another significant and prestigious investment is being realized with the use of Rawlplug products.
