Vostochny Cosmodrome – a spaceport built with Rawlplug technology
Vostochny Cosmodrome, located in the Amur Oblast, is one of Russia’s most significant infrastructure projects, designed for launching carrier rockets and crewed spacecraft.
A modern spaceport in eastern Russia
Construction of Vostochny Cosmodrome began in 2010, with the goal of creating a fully operational launch and landing complex. Situated near the cities of Tsiolkovsky and Svobodny, the facility is planned to cover an area of 550 km² and employ 25,000 people. The estimated construction cost reaches $13.5 billion USD.
The cosmodrome is primarily used for launching Angara and Soyuz carrier rockets, providing greater independence for Russia in space exploration. In addition to commercial and crewed missions, the facility also handles assembly and oversight of orbital operations.
Rawlplug technology in the construction of Vostochny Cosmodrome
During the construction of this impressive space facility, self-tapping R-LX concrete screws were used along with expansion joints, allowing for structural movement compensation. This is particularly crucial for structures exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations and mechanical stresses.
