Waterloo Station – Rawlplug supports the modernisation of one of London’s busiest underground hubs
New platforms, a modern look, and hundreds of thousands of passengers a day – the Waterloo Underground Station has undergone major redevelopment with Rawlplug technology at its core.
A key transport hub in the heart of London
Located adjacent to the mainline Waterloo Rail Station, the underground station serves as one of the capital’s most important transit points. It operates four lines: Bakerloo, Northern, Jubilee and Waterloo & City. In its record year of 2016, passenger numbers exceeded 100 million, and in 2017 it ranked as the second-busiest tube station in all of London.
Future-ready redevelopment
To meet increasing passenger traffic, the station was extensively modernised. As part of the 2018 redevelopment, four new platforms were added. The passenger areas were enhanced with glazed balustrades, modern automatic gate systems, and improved pedestrian flow.
Rawlplug solutions on the platforms
The Waterloo station upgrade made use of R-KER (currently R-KER-II) bonded anchors in combination with internally threaded sockets R-ITS-A2-12100 (now R-ITS-Z-12100 and/or R-ITS-A4-12100).
These selected Rawlplug products ensured fast and reliable installation of glass balustrades and platform infrastructure components, delivering high load capacity in one of the most heavily trafficked transit environments in the UK.
