Kariba Dam – a monumental structure on the Zambezi River modernized with Rawlplug products!
Kariba Dam, spanning the Zambezi River between Zambia and Zimbabwe, is one of the largest hydroelectric dams in the world. It plays a crucial role in providing electricity to millions of residents, making it one of the most vital infrastructure elements in the region.
Impressive scale and energy potential
Standing 128 meters high and 579 meters long, Kariba Dam is a colossal engineering achievement. Its hydroelectric power station generates 1,626 megawatts of electricity, producing 6,400 gigawatt-hours annually.
A cross-border collaboration
Each country operates its own power station – Zambia on the northern bank and Zimbabwe on the southern bank. This joint management makes Kariba Dam a strategic point of cooperation, ensuring a reliable power supply for millions of people in the region.
Rawlplug solutions in the modernization of Kariba Dam
During the modernization process, Rawlplug anchoring solutions were applied to reinforce critical structural elements of the dam.
- R-KER-II-400 hybrid chemical anchor – chosen for high strength and adaptability, this anchor was ideal for demanding concrete applications under varied environmental conditions.
- R-KEX-II chemical anchors – with exceptional resistance to dynamic loads and compatibility with wet and water-submerged substrates, these anchors were essential for hydrotechnical applications.
Threaded rods, used in combination with chemical anchors, ensured structural stability and precise installation, meeting the strict technical requirements of this monumental project.
