Jaguar's history dates back to 11 September 1922, when Sir William Lyons founded the Swallow Sidecar Company, initially producing motorcycle sidecars. In 1927, the company expanded its operations to manufacturing aluminium bodywork for other British car manufacturers. The first vehicle developed by the company, the two-door saloon SS1, was unveiled in 1931. In 1933, the company was renamed SS Cars Ltd, and two years later, with the launch of the SS100 sports car, the name Jaguar appeared for the first time.
