#FixedInNature – beehives, meadows, bees? Rawlplug!
At Rawlplug, we think globally, but we don't forget about the local ecosystem. And this is not just an empty slogan for us. As part of the #FixedInNature campaign, we have been implementing numerous pro-environmental activities in the surroundings of our Wroclaw headquarters for years.
We not only have bat and insect boxes, but also beehives!
June 5 is World Environment Day, while May 20 is Bee Day. The internationally oriented holidays were established by the UN General Assembly and are celebrated in more than 100 countries each year. On this occasion, we take a closer look at Rawlplug's important initiatives aimed at caring for the environment and, more specifically, the areas literally at our fingertips. We are fortunate that Rawlplug's headquarters are located right on the Oder River. Instead of fencing and destroying wild areas, we gave them back to nature. What was the result? See for yourself.

Rarer mowing - the best gift for the ecosystem
While it might seem that evenly trimmed grass, devoid of haphazard vegetation, is neat and healthy, environmentalists argue that frequent mowing does not do the environment any good at all. Lawns retain water, produce oxygen and absorb pollutants. What's more, they provide shelter for many insects. We should also remember that when we mow with garden equipment, we emit a lot of exhaust fumes and toxic compounds into the atmosphere.
For these reasons, more and more cities are deciding to keep lawn mowing to a minimum and, above all, to adapt the frequency of grass cutting to the location and weather conditions. In Wrocław, the #EKOszenie (#ECOlawnmowing) campaign is underway to combat climate change. After all, it is worth noting that tall grass can prevent drought and, on hot days, provide pleasant cooling.
At Rawlplug, we have also decided to grow a flower meadow in the area of the green belt adjacent to the company's buildings, located right on the Oder River. Our current standard is to leave up to 8,000 square metres unmown. Mowing takes place once a year and the meadow contains around 40 plant species. In addition, 60 trees and shrubs have been planted in the unmown area. So, as it turns out - caring for green spaces requires a lot of work, even if we limit the grass cutting alone.

At Rawlplug we have our honey. Impossible? Not at all!
Flower meadows provide an ideal place for plants and insects to thrive. Following this idea, two beehives were set up on an unmown area, which already yielded 8 kg of honey in the first year. This is the first honey harvest in Rawlplug's history!
Let us recall that honeybees are the most important pollinators in the ecosystem. According to experts, they do up to 88 per cent of the work of all pollinators. This means that, without bees, vegetable and fruit yields would be negligible and the harvest itself would be less rich and tasty. Thanks to bees, both humans and animals have food. The importance of the role of bees in nature is best demonstrated by the following data: according to ecologists, the total extinction of bees would mean a food catastrophe and consequently the extinction of humans just four years after the disappearance of bees from the planet.
Our two in-house beehives provide around 30 kg of honey each year, which is collected and collected in jars with Rawlplug labels. We distribute this honey to our guests 🐝💛.
In 2025, we plan to expand our apiary by adding another hive and clearing more square metres of land adjacent to the company's premises. The cleaned and cleared area will be ‘given back to nature’ in line with Rawlplug's actively pursued strategy of protecting and restoring #biodiversity.
We also have pollinator houses!
At Rawlplug's headquarters in Wrocław, we installed 10 insect houses: 7 at the flower meadow by the Oder River and 3 at the entrance to the company.
If a footprint, only a sustainable one – Rawlplug Report 2024
For years, we have been striving to conduct our business in a responsible manner - not only towards customers and employees, but also towards the environment. For us, sustainability is more than a fashionable slogan. It's about the concrete decisions and actions we take every day: from designing products with an eye to their impact on the planet, to reducing emissions and energy consumption, to creating workplaces where people feel safe and have room to grow. We believe that this is the only way to build a sustainable future - based on respect for people, nature and the values that really matter.
And if you want proof - we have it in black and white. Our Sustainability Report shows what all this looks like in numbers and actions. We document in it how much CO₂ we have reduced, how much energy we consume, how we take care of education and employee safety, and which local initiatives we are involved in. It is important for us to talk openly about these things - because we know that change begins with responsible choices. Choices that we make together - every day.
