Rawlplug products as part of the thermal modernization of a public institution building!

The thermal modernization of the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) buildings in Kielce has been completed. The project focused on the iconic glass-fronted office building, a key feature of the city center's architecture. Rawlplug's products played a pivotal role in the process!

In the course of the project, the old façade was replaced with a modern one while preserving the original structure, shape, and characteristic glass elements of the building. Given its location and importance to the city’s architecture, the modernization ensured the design remained faithful to the building's original appearance. 

Building renovation

The ZUS building on Piotrkowska Street was commissioned in early 1971 and had not undergone comprehensive renovations for decades. In the 1990s, three lower buildings were added, with the final expansion completed in 1994. This means that for nearly three decades, none of the buildings underwent major overhauls!

Scope of work and Rawlplug products used in modernization

The thermal modernization project for the ZUS facilities was extensive and involved numerous complex tasks, presenting significant challenges. These tasks required meticulous planning and the implementation of modern technological solutions to adapt the building to contemporary energy efficiency and accessibility standards. The project covered buildings A, B, C, and D, with the primary aim being thermal insulation and compliance with current energy standards.

Façade works

The façade work included dismantling the old elevation on building A, which is now being insulated and fitted with a new one. Building C also underwent a complete façade replacement, with a new stone façade installed on the ground floor on its eastern side. Here, our reliable R-TFIX-8S universal screw-in façade fixing was selected by the inspector as the best solution for the job!

For the ventilated façade on the courtyard side, work was conducted by three different contractors, necessitating two site visits to confirm the load-bearing capacity of products such as R-KEM-II, R-XPT, and R-FF1 on aerated concrete blocks and concrete columns. These products ensured that façade works met the highest safety and quality standards.

Heating system replacement

The heating systems in buildings A, B, C, and D were replaced, along with the lighting. The old oil-fired boiler previously responsible for water heating was removed and replaced with a modern heat exchanger system, fully integrating the building with the municipal heating network.

Roof and entrance renovation

The roofs of all buildings were insulated, improving energy efficiency. Additionally, the entrance to building A was redesigned to include new amenities such as wide doors for easier access for wheelchair users. Architectural barriers were removed, significantly enhancing client comfort.

During work on the upper roof, it was discovered that the top layer of the roof section was composed of mixed materials. As a result, fastening products best suited for structural concrete were recommended to ensure adequate load-bearing capacity. This led to the use of our R-GOK telescopic sleeves and compatible R-WBT roofing screws, providing stability and durability to the entire roof structure—critical for long-term building performance.
