BIM Rawlplug 2.0. Major library update

An operation manual for a high-rise building? A three-dimensional model with countless details and information about the building: materials used, changes made, schedules, and precise specifications. Well, that’s exactly how BIM works.

The idea of BIM as a technology assumes a holistic approach to the structure. We start by creating a 3D model of the whole building. Everything we draw, apart from visual information with dimensions or volumes, has information embedded in it about the material used to build the structure and all of its components: ceilings, walls, windows, doors, and ventilation systems. It also includes detailed descriptions of the products included in the design (and therefore recommended), for example stainless steel anchors, with their names, manufacturer data, index numbers and features, as well as links to technical data sheets.

Ready-to-use model – saving the designer’s time

Put in the simplest terms, the BIM (Building Information Modelling) format is a three-dimensional model enhanced with detailed information. It makes it possible to manage the entire life cycle of a structure more efficiently, from the bidding stage, to design, implementation, useful life, and finally demolition. Precise visuals and a large amount of data make it possible for instance to detect conflicting utilities at an early stage, to generate detailed lists, as well as to perform hassle-free repairs during operation.

It’s a powerful tool that needs to be properly managed. It costs a lot of work to create such an elaborate model, but the effort pays off. As a manufacturer of construction materials, Rawlplug is a part of the whole process. Our aim is to provide customers with ready-to-use, robust, high-quality models and drawings that make their work easier and save their time when designing.

The inclusion of a reference product in a design builds awareness of the Rawlplug brand among the target group, i.e. decision-makers drafting design documentation.

Reference product starts from pole position

For the same reason, Rawlplug’s BIM library comes with a number of time-optimised solutions: a clear resource layout, quick filtering , the possibility of downloading compressed file packages, as well as applications dedicated to the most popular design software.

It is worth pointing out that the inclusion of a reference product in a design builds awareness of the Rawlplug brand among the target group, i.e. decision-makers drafting design documentation. This puts us in pole position, which doesn’t make us win the race already at this point, but significantly increases the likelihood that our products will be used.

Traditional CAD library: a robust foundation

Our Technical Support department has prepared a major update to Rawlplug’s BIM library. It is based on the latest solutions and provides a starting point for further development of the service.

BIM is actually the future that’s already here. We stay up to date with all current trends in design documentation drafting. Top-down regulations related to public procurement and pressure from private investors have effectively contributed to the widespread application of this technology. We are also very keen to make sure that potential library users are not afraid of confronting the technology and are happy to use the resources. We do not want to throw the baby out with the bathwater and enter virtual reality without robust foundations. This is why we also maintain and keep expanding the traditional CAD library, i.e. a repository of standard 2D and 3D drawings. There are many places where the CAD format continues to be the main environment in which design documentation is created for the construction industry. Switching to BIM technology from CAD can be compared to the move from a drawing board to CAD – that's the kind of scale we're talking about. And we are ready for it.
