Rawlplug partners with an extraordinary project by WUST!
In the world of construction, theory and practice rarely come together in such a spectacular way as during the "Design, Build, Destroy" event. Soon, we’ll be part of an initiative that brings together students, experts, and an international group of specialists to push the boundaries of engineering!
The first edition of the "Design, Build, Destroy" – in Polish “ZZZ” – event took place in 2024 and quickly gained recognition both in the academic community and the construction industry. Organized by the KONKRET Scientific Circle from Wrocław University of Science and Technology (WUST) in collaboration with SCHULLER & Company, it demonstrated that technical innovation and interdisciplinary cooperation can lead to spectacular results.
"Design, Build, Destroy" – what is the project about?
Each stage of the event holds unique educational and technological value, fully reflecting the idea embedded in its name.
- Design ("Zaprojektuj" in Polish) – students create a 3D model of a steel structure, working through all phases of the project – from dimensioning and structural strength calculations to preparing complete execution documentation.
- Build ("Zbuduj" in Polish) – with the support of project partners, the designed structures are physically constructed using advanced technologies.
- Destroy ("Zniszcz" in Polish) – the highlight of the event is the strength test of the structure – this is where theory meets practice, and the results are analyzed based on sensor data and 3D scanning.
First edition of the event
During the first edition of "ZZZ" students had the opportunity to design a steel lattice tower from scratch. The structure was designed, fabricated using welded technology, and subjected to strength tests in the laboratory.
What makes this project truly unique is the seamless integration of theory and practice – the entire process, from initial concept to the tower’s destruction, became a platform for learning and knowledge exchange between students, researchers, and event partners.
What’s new in the upcoming edition?
The second edition promises to be even more spectacular. This time, the project will be part of a side event at the 15th International Conference on Metal Structures, a prestigious international gathering dedicated to steel structures, hosted by Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
This means that the results of the students' work will be showcased to professors and experts from around the world, while each stage of the project will be presented in the context of the latest technologies and research in the industry.
Rawlplug – official partner of the event!
Rawlplug is proud to join the group of partners supporting this exceptional initiative! We believe that our reliable products and specialized expertise will contribute significantly to its success. As part of the event, we plan to utilize the R-KER-II hybrid resin anchor together with R-STUDS 8.8 threaded rods – solutions that perfectly align with the project's research and practical objectives.
Two dedicated training sessions will also take place for the participants. The first, organized in two stages at Wrocław University of Science and Technology, will focus on anchor design theory using the EasyFix 4 calculation software and hands-on training in proper resin anchor installation. The second, held at Rawlplug Academy, will provide an opportunity to learn more about our company. Students will also tour our production facility, gaining first-hand insight into our technologies and manufacturing processes.
We are truly excited to support educational initiatives in an innovative way, and we look forward to sharing more details with you soon!
