On-site testing – metal facade fixing in a fire-resistant application
In one of the projects, the design called for insulation to be installed in fire barrier zones with a required fire resistance of R120. Rawlplug R-MBA anchors passed the test with no issues – both on paper and in practice.
For this project, the design specified the installation of thermal insulation boards in fire barrier zones, where fixings with confirmed R120 fire resistance were required. The chosen solution was the R-MBA metal facade fixing – a non-combustible product compliant with fire-rated application requirements. At the client’s request, we carried out an on-site installation test to verify the performance of the solution under real conditions, on a concrete substrate.

R-MBA – metal facade fixing for demanding applications
R-MBA metal hammer-in fixings for EPS and mineral wool are galvanised steel facade anchors recommended for applications where fire resistance is critical – including fire barrier zones with R120 classification. The product meets the requirements of Euroclass A1 reaction to fire, and its wide range of lengths (90–300 mm) allows for fixing insulation boards up to 250 mm thick.
When used with the additional MKC-SS (⌀ 85 mm) pressure plate, it performs particularly well with soft thermal insulation materials. The anchor enables both surface and recessed installation – using the R-KFS-90/20 cutter and R-TFIX-CAP90-MW mineral wool plug. With its fast hammer-in installation, high resistance to damage and long-term durability in concrete and other substrates, R-MBA is a reliable choice for fire safety-critical projects.
