Rawlplug’s products in one of the most beautiful museums in the world!
One of the largest and most modern museum complexes, not only in Poland, but also across entire Europe, has been built at the Warsaw Citadel! The impressive building of the Polish History Museum is yet another addition to Rawlplug's portfolio!
Since autumn 2023, the Polish History Museum has been operating in its new seat located at the Warsaw Citadel. It is located at 1 Gwardii street, bordering on the Polish Army Museum, the Katyń Museum, and the Museum of the 10th Pavilion. Therefore, it can be said that an entire complex of museum venues has arisen in the district of Żoliborz, composed of three separate features. Thanks to new investments, after more than two centuries of isolation, the Citadel has been transformed into a culture park – a venue intended to present major events in the history of Poland, especially those related to the country’s freedom fighting traditions.
A new dimension of history in a multifunctional building
The Museum of Polish History, located near the Royal Castle, was established on the premises of the Citadel of Żoliborz – a place of historic importance on the capital city’s map.
The new building is a low (11 m), yet long edifice with a simple form. With more than 44 thousand m2 of area, it consists of six floors: four above ground and two underground. The Museum is planned to receive about 500,000 visitors a year. The space dedicated to the permanent exhibition covers 7,300 m², while the temporary exhibition space is 1,400 m² in area.
In addition to the exhibition section and areas used for the storage and conservation of works of art, the complex also holds spaces intended for culture. There is a concert hall with 600 seats, a room for film screenings and theatre performances, a library, as well as conference and education rooms. The building roof features a terrace offering a view of the panorama of Warsaw.
Historical metaphor in a monolithic body
The WXCA architecture studio, where the design was prepared, has conceived the building as a multifunctional public utility venue. The facade of the Polish History Museum has been lined with grey marble panels of diversified pattern. The architects decided to use marble because every slab is different and unique. It was envisaged as a reference to history, which naturally consists of unique and individual events.
WXCA is a valued Polish architecture studio, designing to emphasise the elegance of form and a harmonious combination of modernity with respect for tradition and history. The architects specialise in the development of complex public and commercial projects, including the design of the Polish pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai.
An important element of the construction of the Polish History Museum are the reliefs placed on the building’s stone facade – a reference to the most important symbols in the tradition of Polish architecture. They are reminiscent of such pieces as the Gniezno Doors, the Wawel Royal Castle, the Sigismund Chapel, Gothic diamond vaults (including in St. Mary’s Basilica in Gdańsk), or even works of modernism (the Spodek Hall in Katowice).
The Polish History Museum in Warsaw has been recognised as one of the Most Beautiful Museums in the World in this year’s edition of the Prix Versailles in Paris! The Prix Versailles is a prestigious architecture event held under the patronage of UNESCO, and this year’s 10th jubilee edition saw the award awarded for the first time under a new category – museums.
Products used during construction
Numerous different materials and products were used during the construction work, which played a key role in the success of the project. The thermal upgrading process included installation of 61 thousand pieces of the MBA-SS-08250 metal facade fixings and 24 thousand pieces of the MBA-SS-08140 metal facade fixings. Additionally, 85 thousand pieces of the MKC-SS-85 retaining plates were used during the construction.
The MBA-SS-08250 and MBA-SS-08140 metal facade fixings are high-quality products designed for the installation of facade thermal insulation panels. Made of durable metal, the R-MBA non-flammable hammer-in fixings provide solid mounting and long-lasting strength. The special design of the pins enables quick and easy installation, minimising the risk of surface damage. The MBA fixings are corrosion resistant, making them ideal for outdoor applications. Thanks to their versatility, they are suitable for installation on various substrates, such as concrete, brick or hollow blocks.
Rawlplug's MKC-SS-85 metal retaining plates are fixing accessories designed for robust installation of insulating materials. Made of stainless steel, the non-flammable plates are characterised by exceptional strength and corrosion resistance, which guarantees their long service life under difficult weather conditions. The special design of the plates ensures even distribution of clamping forces, minimising the risk of damage to the fixture material. Thanks to their versatility, the MKC-SS-85 plates can be used with different types of plugs, which increases their versatility in construction applications.
