The R-XPTIII throughbolt represents the third generation of throughbolts in the Rawlplug range. Made of carbon steel with either galvanised or hot-dip galvanised coating, it will perform well in a wide range of installation needs, with even very heavy loads.

Anchoring in concrete is one of the most commonly used types of heavy-duty construction fasteners. Rawlplug's offer includes a range of solutions to achieve long-lasting and highly durable results - these include both chemical anchors and mechanical anchors, which are manufactured from Polish steel in one of the largest, reputable cold-forming factories in Europe.

R-XPTIII steel anchors - features and applications

The new R-XPTIII throughbolts are the third generation of XPT mechanical anchors in the Rawlplug range. Thanks to a change in the geometry of the band and the anchor itself, we have achieved a better fit of the anchor to the drilled hole, which translates into the highest load capacity of the fastenings. The modified design of the R-XPTIII anchor is also responsible for reducing the effect of displacement of the anchorage during or after installation, under the influence of tensile forces.

  • Optimised cone shape, increasing the angle of attack of the expansion sleeve on the substrate.
  • New shape of expansion sleeve, with additional wedge ring, providing even better anchor locking, which creates a cone of concrete when pulling out, rather than breaking the steel or pulling out the anchor itself, thus giving the highest possible load capacity in this substrate.
  • Two anchorage depths of the anchorage in the substrate - standard and reduced, saving time in preparing the hole.
  • Higher load bearing capacities in the European Technical Assessment (ETA), allowing shallower anchoring and the attachment of a heavier fixed component.
  • Hot-dip galvanised carbon steel, guarantees the anchor's strength and resistance to external conditions (guaranteed in the ETA document).
  • Anchor length identification markers to help determine embedment depth and post-installation anchorage control.
  • Controlled tightening torque of the anchor after installation - using a torque control wrench.
  • Reliable, fast and simple installation, using the anchor installation tool.
  • Specification according to EAD 330232-01-0601-v01 .

New R-XPTIII throughbolts - what will you find in the range?

The new R-XPTIII metal anchors are available in two versions:

R-XPTIII HD throughbolt, made of carbon steel with 50 µm hot-dip galvanised coating. The protective hot-dip galvanised coating is responsible for the increased corrosion resistance, so that the ETA allows the use of this anchor in outdoor conditions. In many cases, this will allow an economical replacement of stainless steel anchors. Galvanising also gives resistance to mechanical damage, allowing the anchor to be used wherever the fixing is at risk of corrosion from weather or environmental influences. The expansion sleeve of the R-XPTIIIHD anchor is manufactured from stainless steel, further improving its protection in corrosive environments.

The R-XPTIIIHD anchor is available in sizes M8, M10, M12, M16 .

Anchor for concrete R-XPTIIIZP, manufactured from carbon steel in ZP galvanised coating. The protective electroplated zinc coating provides protection for the anchor against corrosion and at the same time - gives a smooth, uneven anchor surface. The expansion sleeve of the R-XPTIIIZP anchor is manufactured from carbon steel in zinc electroplating.

 The R-XPTIIIZP anchor is available in sizes M8, M10, M12, M16, M20 .

Where to use the R-XPTIII throughbolt?

The innovative design and technologies used to manufacture the new R-XPTIII anchor allow the anchorage to be used for applications in materials such as:

  • normal non-cracked concrete C20/C25-C50/C60,
  • reinforced concrete
  • unreinforced concrete,
  • natural stone - after testing.

The fixing is ideal for the installation of ventilated facades, steel structures, storage racks, steel columns or fences.

How to install the R-XPTIII mechanical anchors?

Installation of the mechanical anchors can be carried out in two ways - with a hammer or with a installation tool for steel anchors.

Installation steps:

  1. Drill a hole of the required diameter and depth, e.g. with an SDS Plus R-PRH-26850 mains hammer drill or SDS Plus R-PRH18 cordless hammer drill.
  2. Remove dust and clean the hole thoroughly using the R-BLOWPUMP 4 times.
  3. Insert the anchor pin into the hole through the fixture and tap the anchor head with the RT-HAM-800 hammer or RT-SDSI-MA150 installation tool to the correct depth. The result - a pre-assembled anchor.
  4. Using a R-HTW-20-100 torque control wrench, tighten the nut to the required torque.

R-XPTIII steel throughbolts - why is it worth it?

Mechanical anchors for concrete have a number of key advantages that make them widely used in various construction and installation projects. What are the strongest points of steel anchors that these fixings win over other products?

  • Strong and durable fixing. The steel strut anchor offers a very strong connection to the concrete, which is crucial when the construction requires exceptional strength to withstand very heavy loads.
  • Quick and simple installation. The installation of mechanical anchors is very simple in its principles, requiring no special equipment or lengthy preparation.
  • Immediate effectiveness. Unlike chemical anchors, driven anchors can be loaded immediately after installation. This is a feature that sets the pace of work and enables projects to be completed more quickly.
  • Resistance to weather and chemicals. A recessed steel anchor, such as the R-XPTIII, is usually treated against corrosion, which increases the fastening's resistance to corrosion caused by moisture and chemicals. This allows the R-XPTIII anchor to be used in outdoor applications and industrial environments. Check out the FM Certification for the Rawlplug throughbolt.
  • Variety of types, diameters and lengths. The wide parametric range of both types of R-XPTIII anchor allows the fixing to be matched to the specific application and the load to be carried.
